Trip to Avignon

Sur Le Pont d’Avignon,

On y danse, on y danse”

Avignon was the home of several French Popes in the 14th and early 15th centuries. Our first morning in the gite we drove to that city to pick up our friend Carol and do a little sightseeing. The day was sunny.

We had lunch outdoors here in the Plaza del Reloj and took in two major sights: the Pont, which no longer crosses all the way across the Rhone, and the Papal palace.

We drove back to the gite in the afternoon, to talk about our various adventures and enjoy the house. This gite was very nice, especially for our purposes as it had an extra bedroom.

The steps on the left of the picture lead up to the guest bedroom. There were original paintings on the walls, by Alain Grosmougin’s sister Rosine from Australia, whom we met a day or so later. She spoke excellent English, but we spoke French with Alain. He made sure we had everything we needed, introduced us to other visitors when we met outside, then left us to our own devices.
